Increased Job Security for Long-Term Academic Staff



Academic staff with seven or more years service are considered long-term academic staff.  Long-term academic staff must be reviewed annually to determine their eligibility for increased job security.  Academic staff with less than seven years service may still be considered for increased job security.  Eligibility is based off the following conditions:

  1. Are they an integral part of their department’s continuing mission?
  2. Can a funding source be identified that will permit more than a one-year appointment?
  3. Does the quality of their performance warrant acknowledgement through increased job security?

Submitting Requests


To request increased job security, a memo should be sent to the Office of Human Resources.  Memo requirements depend on the type of appointment.  There are three different types of appointments with increased job security:

Rolling Horizon
Multiple Year Contracts
Indefinite
