Minimum Notice Requirements for Nonrenewal



Years of UW-Madison Employment (Academic Staff Service*) Minimum Notice Required
Fewer than 2 years3 Months
At Least 2 years, but fewer than 6 years6 Months
At Least 6 years, but fewer than 10 years9 Months
10 or more years12 Months

"Late" notice of nonrenewal is possible up to the last day of the appointment provided that the appointment is extended to provide the full notice required.

Notice of nonrenewal cannot be provided after the appointment end date.

* Academic staff Service: continuous years of paid University of Wisconsin-Madison academic staff employment without regard to percent of appointment. A leave of absence or break of service of three or fewer years does not cause loss of prior years' employment credit.
