Conversion from Classified to Unclassified (or vice versa)



According to UPPP Ch. 3.2, prior to a department offering an academic staff position to a current classified employee in the same department, the applicant pool for the position must be reviewed and the appointment must be approved by APO.

When preparing to make an offer, please review the situation and provide the following information to CALS Human Resources.

  1. An explanation which addresses the following issues:

    • How is the Academic Staff position different frm the classified position?
    • Size of the applicant pool and number interviewed.
    • Basis for determining this employee to be the best qualified in comparison to the other candidates.
    • What policies and/or information explain the salary increase decision?
    • Is the Classified position refilled?

      • If YES, please provide the name or cert number.
      • If NO, please provide an explanation.

  2. A copy of the Classified job description
  3. Resumes of the applilcants who were interviewed.
