Visitor Access to CALS FacilitiesAccess to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences' (CALS) laboratories, research stations, workshops and other areas housing animals, plants, hazardous chemicals, physical agents, or machinery is limited to faculty, staff, and authorized visitors, volunteers, and students affiliated with UW Madison programs. It is the obligation and responsibility of personnel who arrange for visits to hazardous or potentially hazardous areas to notify the individual or department in charge of the space and obtain authorization prior to entry. This will help ensure that those entering any of these areas are adequately protected from hazards and informed about the safety and emergency procedures relevant to their activities. Other persons, in particular children, are not permitted in hazardous work areas indicated above with the exception of University or departmental sanctioned tours and visits. In these circumstances, the tour leader and other knowledgeable personnel must exercise careful supervision and will have received approval for these activities. Formalized elementary and secondary education programs, such as the "Take Your Child To Work" day, are encouraged. The college policy on having dependent children in the workplace requires that the employee seek approval from their immediate supervisor, the parent is responsible for the child at all times, the child should not interfere with other employees or the work routine. |
