The Short Grass Prairie Stewardship Fund (Fund) supports the conservation and restoration of the short grass prairie ecosystem covering portions of New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. The Fund emphasizes conservation actions that aid in recovery of imperiled species that depend on this system, especially the Lesser Prairie-Chicken. While proposals will be accepted for work in any of the focal states and for a wide range of conservation actions, in 2012 special consideration will be given to projects in southeastern New Mexico and projects that aim to work with USDA-NRCS field offices to provide technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, and other private landowners.
