The California Pepper Commission (CPC) is soliciting research proposals from pepper researchers for funding during our 2013-14 fiscal year.
Generally we fund projects in the range of $5-20k which deal with applied research which will help our growers to continue to grow peppers profitably in California. Research dealing with control of insects, weeds, and diseases has been the major focus of our funding in the past, and we expect that to continue. Other problems of continuing interest are psyllids, Phytophthora root rot, Tomato Spotted Wilt virus, and stip. In addition, research proposals involving the economics of plastic mulch and efficiency of water and fertilizer use will be considered. In 2011, labor availability became an issue, and research aimed at resolving that issues will be given special consideration.
Proposals need not be lengthy; two pages is usually sufficient. Mail or email proposals to the CPC office by Fri, Jan 25, 2013:
