Through a national competition, the Gold Foundation will award up to three Assistant or Associate Professorships, providing $50,000 per year for a three year period.
The purpose of The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Professorship Program is to promote the importance of humanistic medicine and the values of professionalism in medical education. The goal of the award is to honor and support faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level who embody these attributes through clinical practice, teaching, and scholarship including research and curriculum development. The Gold Foundation defines the attributes of a humanistic doctor as one who demonstrates respect for a patient’s concerns and values and provides compassionate consideration and care for a patient's physical and emotional well-being.
Awards may be used for a variety of activities, projects or research including but not limited to curriculum development, program development, and transforming institutional culture toward a more humanistic learning environment. With the establishment of its new Research Institute, the Gold Foundation has a special interest in proposals that include well-designed research studies that will further the understanding of humanism in medicine.
