The University of Wisconsin purchased the former Governor's Mansion in 1951 with funds from the Knapp endowment to maintain the Knapp Memorial Graduate program. Since 1954, the Kohler Foundation has generously assured continuation of the program by providing funding for twelve fellowships. These unique fellowships provide free housing and offer an exceptional opportunity for graduate students from diverse disciplines to live together in the Knapp House and to share their research, culture and interests. Students host dinner seminars and recruit speakers from across campus and community to provide a forum for sharing research and ideas.
