The L\'Oreal USA Fellowships for Women in Science program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five American women at the start of their scientific careers. Recipients in past years receive $20,000 each, for use toward their post-doctoral research. Beginning in 2007 recipients will be awarded $40,000 each. Launched in 2003 as the U.S. component of the L\'Oreal-UNESCO International Fellowship program, the U.S. Fellowship aims to 1) raise awareness of the contributions of women to the sciences, and 2) identify exceptional female researchers in the U.S. to serve as role models for younger generations.
