This is an open competition and proposals can be submitted at anytime,until 9/30/11. For multi state proposals, submit the proposal on USBs website. For state-specific proposals, contact CALS Research Division. USBs Sustainability Initiative conducts programs that support soy sustainability performance and help achieve Objectives as outlined below. Your proposal should address one or more of the following objectives: 1.Establish the USB soybean sustainability position as an accepted global definition, complementary to efforts of agricultural industry allies. The USB position is: Sustainable soybean agriculture will meet the needs of the present while improving the ability of future generations to meet their own needs by 1) Adoption of technology and best practices which increase productivity to meet future needs while being stewards of the environment; 2) Improving human health through access to safe, nutritious food; and 3) Enhancing the social and economic well being of agriculture and its communities. 2.Engage the value chain to promote sustainable practices that reflect a unique shared platform. 3.Establish science-based mechanisms for assessing baselines and progress that enable continual improvements in sustainability measures by the U.S. soy value chain.
