CALS International Certificate
PROVIDING SCHOLARLY FOUNDATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL PRACTICE
The certificate is designed for those students with an interest in the practice of CALS disciplines in an international context. The certificate will be awarded at graduation upon successful completion of a minimum of 16 credit hours of coursework, as specified below. The bestowal of the Certificate shall be permanently recorded on the recipient’s Official Transcript of Grades. The certificate is designed to fit within many CALS students’ existing degree requirements and thus will not materially affect time to degree. The only prerequisite is that a student be currently enrolled as an undergraduate degree candidate and be in good standing.
All students will be required to take the 1-credit Introduction to International Issues in CALS, which will serve as the foundation for the certificate. The curriculum guide provided to students will make clear that their enrollment in the certificate does not guarantee them enrollment in any single course, with the exception of the Introduction to International Issues in CALS.
Academic Requirements
Students who earn the CALS International Certificate will acquire a scholarly foundation for work in or with one or more countries outside of the United States. This preparation will cover three competencies:
- 1. awareness of certificate goals and value,
- 2. scholarly understanding of non-US cultures, and
- 3. comparative work in their CALS discipline.
