Subject: Ordering MS software loaded on new computer systems
UW Purchasing asked me to forward this to Tech Partners. If you have comments or questions, please send them to Pat Leggett.
As you are aware, the UW-System has signed an Education Custom Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft Corporation. This means that the majority of Microsoft applications products and upgrades to operating systems are avaliable at no cost to license. Departments need only purchase media that may be loaded on multiple systems (contract details are available at our web site: http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/purch/contract/wp2066.html.)
Meanwhile staff are purchasing computer systems from a wide variety of contracts via requisition/purchase orders as well as with their purchasing cards. We would like your help spreading the word to all University staff who may be involved in such purchases so that they do not unnecessarily pay for Microsoft software licenses (specific applications products, only). They must order operating systems on new computer systems.
When we receive requisitions at campus purchasing that show Microsoft campus license products ordered we will contact the department "for additional information" person. We will confirm whether they are aware of the Microsoft agreement and that they can save money by obtaining media from either their department or college information technology group, or may purchase media from Softmart, the designated contract vendor, or from DoIT.
Thank you for your help.
