Re: Microsoft Office 2000 Installation & Usage

CALS Administrative Computing Services is requesting that you refrain from purchasing and installing Microsoft Office 2000. We plan to investigate this product over the next several months. During the investigation timeframe CALS ACS staff will also be learning this product so that we can effectively support it on our network. At the end of our investigation we will share our results and a developed deployment plan and support policy.

In particular we have major concerns regarding compatibility issues with Access 2000 and Access 97 databases that are currently being used by LAN customers. Access 2000 may require programming changes to be made to these existing systems.

We understand that there will be extenuating circumstances that will require the purchase/install of either all of Office 2000 or certain components on your PC. We ask that you please contact ACS so we can work with you in these cases.
