| 'Flowfield' is a sculpture created by artist Will Turnbill with the UW-Madison Arts Department in 2008. It was originally located on the rooftop of the Humanities building on the Madison campus as a temporary public arts project. The piece was then moved to the Hancock Agricultural Research Station where it became a part of Pete's Prairie. There are 2,300 steel rods in the sculpture. |
| Flowfield is Turnbull’s response to the increasing mechanization of the farming industry and marginalization of the independent blacksmith. He states “Every stalk specimen in Flowfield was fabricated, mass-produced and stamped with the efficient grace of a well-oiled machine. And just like contemporary agriculture, it is functionally elegant and effective, but once again, highly forced.” |
