Mission of the Agricultural Research Stations
Function
The primary function of the Agricultural Research Stations is to provide facilities and support for the research and educational programs of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. To carry out this function in an efficient manner:
- Each station shall have a program emphasis, subject to review by the Agricultural Research Stations Committee, that relates to the needs of agriculturists who encounter environmental conditions (climate and soil) similar to those at the station.
- Station resources shall be available for use by appropriate subject matter departments to carry out approved research projects either on the stations or in the local area to the extent that required resources are available.
Administration
- The immediate administration of the Agricultural Research Stations Department is assigned to the Director of the Agricultural Research Stations. The Director is responsible to the Dean and Director of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences through the Associate Dean and Director of the Research Division. The Director shall ensure that the Department works closely and cooperatively with the primary areas of CALS: Research, Academic Student Affairs, and University Extension.
- The Agricultural Research Stations Committee, a standing committee of CALS, provides recommendations to the Dean and Director of the College of Agricultural and LIfe Sciences regarding programs and procedures that involve institutional policy and provides guidance in the operations of the Agricultural Research Stations. In addition, the committee shall address policy issues and hear appeals related to the use of the public events facilities at the stations.
- Each station is managed by the station superintendent, in concert with an assistant superintendent where appropriate, and is responsible to the Director of Agricultural Research Stations. The superintendent and/or assistant superintendent may hold a joint appointment in a subject matter department.
