WISCareers has been around for a long time as a resource for students and others looking for a job. Not only can it help you find job postings, but it has several more advantages than that.
Assessments is a tab that allows you to find information about finding careers that would be a good fit for you. It allows you to evaluate your skills and helps you find what you would be good at. It also evaluates your interests and finds what kind of career would keep you interested and engaged. The Work Values Inventory lets you explore your values and gives you job categories that may be good for your values.
The occupations tab is all about finding a career for you that matches your interests or field. Not only can you browse occupations, but also occupations in healthcare, the military, and by career clusters. This tab also allows you to compare certain occupations. The Quick Look-Ups segment also allows you to find information quickly by looking at your skills, interests, or your major.
The education tab is a great tool for you to explore for your time in college. It allows you to browse other majors in different schools, including graduate school. There is also information on scholarships and financial aid, even class planning applications.
The Job Seeking tab is not only a great resource to find jobs, but also a great resource to find what employers are in your field or major. Several tools are also available to you for creating a resume, cover letter, and there is even the ability to create an ePortfolio.
Probably the most helpful application on this site is the ePortfolio Individualized Learning Plan that takes you through the steps of “Who am I?,” “Where am I going?,” and “How do I get there?” It brings all of the tabs talked about earlier and brings them together to give you a comprehensive portfolio of who you are and what you would like to do with your life.
WISCareers is a great resource for you to use in your “discovery” of who you want to be and you are probably wondering how do I start. Well, you can access WISCareers by clicking on the “Work Record” tab in your MyUW and then scrolling all the way to the bottom. At the bottom there is a big button and when you click on it, it allows you to create an account. Use this wonderful resource to get a handle on your career.
