Today at the 10 Days of Career Services is all about BuckyNet! Today’s events include a BuckyNet Walk-in Q/A from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30p.m in 116 Ag. Hall where CALS Career Services would be delighted to answer any of your questions about BuckyNet. Before everyone comes in today I though I would explain a little more about how to use BuckyNet in this blog in case you are not able to make it or you have never really used it before.
First of all, BuckyNet is an amazing resource for any student or alumni that goes to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It is a resource that students can use to find jobs and so many other things. This resource makes finding that once-in-a-lifetime job or internship possible.
CALS Career Services Email: careers@cals.wisc.edu
To get started, the first thing is to email CALS Career Services at careers@cals.wisc.edu for an account. Make sure you include your campus ID and your major in the email. CALS Career Services will then use that information to create your account and will send you your password information. You now have the ability to enter BuckyNet and you can go to our homepage and click on students to log-in to BuckyNet.
Once logged in you should create your profile. Your profile is where you put your personal information to help the employer get in contact with you. You can also put information about the kinds of internships or jobs you want. Your academic information including student organizations, volunteering, and your majors also have a place here. This is all so it is easier for an employer to actually find you.
The documents tab is where you can put any documents you want employers to be able to see. This would definitely include your resume. You can also place cover letters for employers, writing samples, or anything else you would like them to see. There is also a resume builder application and a document library for information on things like the employers coming to campus for the career fair.
The Jobs and Internships tab is probably the tab you will spend most of your time on. This is where you can find jobs to apply for. There are an amazing amount of jobs you can look through. Right now we have nearly 900 job postings. These postings can include internships, job postings, volunteer work, lab experiences, and all the way up to college faculty positions. BuckyNet is a one-stop-shop for any students in whatever level of studies they are involved in. We also have job positions that are local as well as positions that travel the world and the country. The possibilities are endless.
The employers tab gives you the ability to browse the nearly 8000 employers we have on this resource. There is information available to you about who they are as well as contact information. This will give you the ability to look at employers in your field and seek them out to create contacts in the company. Their are also tabs here where you can create a list of contacts and employers and list them as favorites and companies you would like to pursue.
The interviews tab is where employers can request to interview with you. Yes employers can and do sometimes seek out students using BuckyNet. If you accept their interview you can do that here as well.
The networking tab allows you to keep up-to-date information about your professional network. You can also tab a contact as someone that is or isn’t interested in you and then you can take notes about them for references in the future.
The events tab is a great way to stay connected with CALS Career Services and what we are doing on campus. You can find out information about upcoming career fairs, information sessions with companies, and workshops we are hosting. This is a great resource to find out information about events that will have a positive impact on your future career endeavors.
The calendar tab is a calendar of all the events going on at CALS Career Services. You can also use this tab to create an appointment with a CALS Career Services staff member. You can create an appointment for critiquing your resume all the way to getting career advice.
BuckyNet is truly a great resource that everyone should be using on campus. It is a great way to stay active in your career. Having a BuckyNet account also means you are on CALS Career Service’s email server. This means you can receive up-to-date information on what is happening on campus as well as friendly reminders about upcoming events.
Look into BuckyNet and get an account, you definitely should be using it.
