The Career Fair is on Thursday from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kohl Center. I thought I should give you a check-list of things you should bring to the career fair.
1. Suit and Tie: This is sometimes forgotten when going to a career fair, but it is a necessity. A good suit and tie makes you look professional. Not having a suit and tie, however, can make you look unprofessional and will often deter an employer from giving you an interview. Also, when picking out the tie and shirt, make sure it is not a bold color. (Sorry badgers, this means not too much red)
Cheaper Alternative: If you do not have a suit or enough money to buy one right now, a shirt and tie is acceptable, but a suit is preferred.
2. Resume Paper: There is nothing like handing in your resume to an employer. For an employer, a resume is his or her first glance at who you really are. That is why your resume’s first impression is so important. Resume paper is available in most stores that carry paper and gives a nice final touch to your resume.
Cheaper Alternative: Cardstock is another option and is typically cheaper than resume paper, but it does not have a texture or color.
3. Resume Holder: A nice, leather-bound resume holder is a nice touch when talking to employers. It looks professional by your side and is a good place to hold your resume, pens and a place to write down notes. It is functional and looks good.
Cheaper Alternative: A skinny black binder can also be effective and still looks nice. Plus, it is a lot cheaper.
Additional options: Business cards and a personal name badge.
These are necessities for the career fair. Make sure to come prepared.
