Nominate alums for “Forward under 40″ awards by July 9

Nominations are now open for the 2010 Forward under 40 awards. These annual awards from the Wisconsin Alumni Association honor and recognize outstanding UW-Madison graduates under age 40 who are living the Wisconsin Idea, the principle that the boundaries of the classroom should extend to the boundaries of the state and beyond to influence and improve people’s lives. Nominate for the Wolf Prize by August 31

The Wolf Foundation invites nominations for the 2010 Wolf Prizes in the Sciences. The Wolf Prizes have been award since 1978 to outstanding scientists and artists for their achievements in the benefit of humakind. The prize consists of a diploma and an honorarium of $100,000. Past CALS scientists receiving the Wolf Prize in Agriculture include plant pathologist J.C. Walker (1978); biochemist Henry Lardy (1981); biochemist Robert Burris (1984); and animal scientist Neal First (1996).

Nominate by May 18 for Honorary Recognition, Distinguished Service, Distinguished Alumni awards

I am pleased to announce and invite nominations for the 2009 College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Honorary Recognition Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Distinguished Alumni Award.

Over the past 100 years, the College has recognized 495 individuals for their outstanding service with the Honorary Recognition Award. Each has given unselfishly of time and talent, improved the lives of many, and enriched society for us all. In 1994, the College introduced the Distinguished Service Award to recognize University faculty and staff members for meritorious service to the College and University, to citizens of Wisconsin, and to people around the nation and the world. This year the College is proud to mark the inaugural year of the Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes a career of outstanding achievement through extraordinary contributions to one’s chosen field or an exemplary record of public service. Nominations for Wis. Potato Board Distinguished Grad Fellowship reopened - due May 1

The College is reissuing the call for nominations for the Wisconsin Potato Industry Board-Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship award for the 2009-10 academic year. This Fellowship was endowed for the purpose of funding a graduate fellowship in potato research.

Nominations are invited for the Campbell-Bascom Professorship, which is awarded to faculty in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences who have made outstanding contributions in the field of agriculture. This includes, but is not limited to, those working in the areas of food science, nutrition, horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology, biological systems engineering, bacteriology, biochemistry and genetics.
