Three e-newsletters help you connect with key audiences

CALS Office of Undergraduate Programs and Services has launched an e-newsletter for students. The first edition of CALS Connections arrived in the inboxes of current and incoming students on Tuesday, July 29, and is available online at www.cals.wisc.edu/students/ecals. The student newsletter is starting out as a monthly but is likely to increase to twice a month as students settle into the fall semester. With the advent of CALS Connections, CALS now has three vehicles to deliver messages to some of its most important audiences. (more…)

Scientists see advantages to working with media

Once upon a time in the world of science, sharing your work with the press was heresy. Journalists, according to the common wisdom, would get it wrong, your research would be distorted, and your colleagues would see you as little more than a shameless grandstander. Scientist popularizers such as the late Carl Sagan, a master of adroit science communication, were excoriated by some of their colleagues for the questionable practice of trying to make science accessible. CALS will help pilot new campus web content management system

Pilot-testing of a new Web content management system will begin this summer. Among those doing the testing will be two CALS web specialists. The new system will allow staff in campus departments and offices to focus on adding and updating content, rather than developing and maintaining their web sites. (more…)

CALS communicators meet April 15 to talk about branding and marketing strategies

The next CALS Communicators meeting is scheduled for April 15th from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. in the 6th floor faculty meeting room—room 6201—in the Microbial Sciences Building. The meeting will focus on branding—how to develop a departmental identity that really connects with your audiences, from prospective students to potential donors and everyone in between. CALS photos on tap

The photos have appeared in a variety of publications, websites and presentations and soon they should be appearing in many more venues. The CALS communication program is currently building an online photo library, for use by faculty and staff to augment their websites and publications. (more…)
