Second Yahara Lakes Conference Oct. 10

The sources of excess nutrients and sediments that enter the Yahara Lakes are widely known and well understood. But practical and effective ways to halt this pollution — which degrades water quality, feeds excess growth of weeds and algae, and leads to frequent beach closings - continue to elude us. A Clean Future for the Yahara Lakes: Solutions for Tomorrow, Starting Today will focus on identifying and implementing answers to these persistent problems. (more…)

The Fall’s first Ag Hall Morning Break — Sept. 9

School is back in session, and so are the monthly Ag Hall morning breaks (a.k.a. coffee hours), beginning on Sept. 9 from 8:30–9:30 a.m. in 140 Ag Hall. Stop by to do some early-morning snacking and swap stories of how you spent the summer — and maybe hatch some collaborations for the year to come.

FOOTBALL FIRE-UP 2008, co-sponsored by CALS and the Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association (WALSAA), is a great opportunity to connect with old CALS friends and make new ones, fill up on a smorgasbord of tailgate fare, and stoke up spirit to help cheer on Big Red for four quarters of football and a fifth quarter of fun. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at the Camp Randall Field House from 8:30 a.m. until the 10:30 AM. Wisconsin versus Marshall kick-off is at 11:00 AM. (more…)

Campus invited to ice cream social Sept. 4

As the fall semester gets under way, faculty, staff and students are invited to greet each other and new chancellor Carolyn “Biddy” Martin at a university ice cream social on Bascom Hill. The event will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, rain or shine. All employees and students are invited. Bucky Badger will be on hand from 4-4:30 p.m. Dietary alternatives also will be available at the event. There will be a limit of one dish per person, while supplies last.

Faculty advisers encouraged to attend new student ice cream social

Please make sure that your department or major is represented at the new student ice cream social Friday, Aug. 29 in Allen Centennial Gardens.

The ice cream social begins at 9:30 a.m., so please come and enjoy some ice cream with our new students. Please take your students back to your department to introduce them to other staff and faculty and show them around your facilities after enjoying the Babcock Hall ice cream.

New medical research center opening Sept. 4

Join the School of Medicine and Public Health for the grand opening of phase one of the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research. Centennial celebrations begin Sept. 5 for LSC

The Department of Life Sciences Communication kicks off its “Centennial Celebration” with an entire weekend of activities. On Friday, Sept. 5, tour the new home of the department in the recently remodeled Hiram Smith Hall, Saturday, Sept. 6, enjoy the pre-game Football Fire Up, a UW football game, an evening banquet, and then on Sunday, Sept. 7 a centennial brunch.
