Help the Curriculum Planning Committee elect new members

As you are aware, annually elections are held on campus to elect members to important committees. In the division of Biological Sciences elections are held for the three arms of the divisional executive committee: the Tenure Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Curriculum Planning Committee. All new CALS employees asked to attend a Sexual Harassment Workshop

CALS supports the UW-Madison’s commitment to improve our campus climate and enhance the quality of our environment for work, teaching and learning, research and customer service. The university’s Sexual Harassment Information and Resources Project is an ongoing effort to heighten campus awareness about sexual harassment issues and to increase our effectiveness in addressing this important concern. The initiative includes the presentation of sexual harassment informational sessions to all academic, administrative and service units. As part of our College’s proactive approach to create a positive environment for all individuals, CALS has scheduled four informational sessions. All employees who were hired in CALS after the last Sexual Harassment Worshops (October 2007), or have not previously attended a workshop, are required to attend. (more…)

Provide new TAs and PAs with copy of TAA agreement

If your are hiring any new Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Program/Project Assistants (PAs), please make sure they get copies of the Agreement Between the State of Wisconsin and the Teaching Assistants’ Association at the time they receive their appointment letters. Hard copies are available from CALS Human Resources, 212 Ag Hall, or online through the “Policies and Procedures” section of the Academic Personnel Office web site, or directly at http://oser.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=5657.

Aug. 21 workshop recommended for those handling I-9s and other immigration documents

CALS Human Resources recommends attending the upcoming I-9 workshop scheduled on Thursday, August 21 from 1:00-3:00 pm in Room 5045 at 21 N Park St.  The I-9 workshop will cover verification requirements, which documents are acceptable, and how to properly complete the form.  The workshop will give detailed information on completing I-9’s and give special attention to immigration documents.  If you are interested please register by sending and email to Deborah Ahlstedt at dahlstedt@ohr.wisc.edu.

Info for classified staff who serve as election officials

The coming November election may see some of our employees working the polls on election day as an election official. State statute 7.33 (4) provides that state employees may act as “election officials” without loss of pay when their election duties occur on a scheduled workday. An election official means an individual who is charged with any duties relating to the conduct of an election. This includes poll workers. It does NOT include employees who are performing work for a particular candidate or political party. (more…)

Send nominations for Department Administrator Certificate Program by Aug. 12

Nominations for the Department Administrator Certificate Program (DACP) are now being accepted through Tuesday, August 12. The objective of DACP is to enhance participants’ knowledge of the University and to assist them in supporting UW-Madison departments by becoming more effective managers and supervisors. The CALS Human Resources Office would like you to know that the College of Letters and Science is currently recruiting for a University Grants and Contracts Specialist to work in the Department of Psychology. We certainly don’t want you to leave the College, but we would like you to consider taking this exam because the list of eligible applicants created as a result of this exam will be used to fill vacancies throughout campus for the next six months. USCIS reinstates June 2007 I-9 form

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has withdrawn the June 2008 version of Form I-9 and has reinstated the June 2007 version, but with a new expiration date of 30 June 2009. Departments should start using the June 2007 version with the June 2009 expiration date immediately.
