Steenbock library databases are on the move

CAB Abstracts, FSTA, Agricola and other databases have a new look. For many years these databases have been accessed via Silver Platter (aka WebSPIRS). Silver Platter is being discontinued, so we have moved most of our Silver Platter databases to new vendors.This will mean changes in how you search the databases and how you export records to EndNote or RefWorks. Licensing deals provide greater access to professional journals

Steenbock Library is happy to announce that campus libraries have recently negotiated new mutli-year licensing agreements with some journal publishers. As a result of these negotiations, you now have greatly increased access to journals from Elsevier, including some titles that had been canceled in the past. Among the hundreds of titles available from this publisher are such titles as Applied Soil Ecology, Bioresource Technology, Food Policy, Journal of Insect Physiology, Science of the Total Environment, Scientia Horticulturae, and the journal Stem Cell Research, which began publication in 2007. NIH Public Access Policy Information Session

In accordance with Division G, Title II, Section 218 of PL 110-161 (Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2008 ), the NIH voluntary Public Access Policy (NOT-OD-05-022) is now mandatory. Get your course reserve requests to Steenbock library right away

Steenbock Library reminds you that course reserve requests must be submitted by December 20, 2007 to guarantee that everything will be available for your students by the first day of spring semester classes. Requests submitted after that date will be processed in the order received. In general, items requested between Dec. 21 and February 1 will be processed in about two weeks. When the “rush” lets up in about the third week of the semester, turnaround time is shorter. (more…)

UW-Madison ranks high in stem cell research citations

Thomson ISI, the company behind Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports, has just released Essential Science Indicators Special Topic: Stem Cells. According to this international analysis, UW Madison ranks 7th in the “Institutions” category when the data is sorted by total number of citations to its stem cell research articles. (more…)
