Best practices: Easy Award Set-up

CALS Research Division and RSP (Research and Sponsored Programs) are here to help PIs get their awards in place as quickly as possible so that they may begin their research/projects. In order to speed up the process, please be aware of the review process and what your responsibilities are. When you have been notified that a proposal will be funded, the first step is to contact Ginger Freitag (gfreitag@cals.wisc.edu, 0-1648) at the CALS Research Division. Be prepared to address the following topics:

3. Spending edits

Position available: Information Processing Consultant

CALS Research Division is seeking an individual that will be responsible for planning, design, and development in support of research administration, research compliance, graduate education, WAES, outreach throughout the college, campus, and beyond, and other functions/missions as directed. This IT position will be a development/project lead. The position will report directly to the Associate and Assistant Deans for Research and the Assistant Director of the WAES. New CALS no-cost extension template

Requesting a no-cost extension requires consideration of your budget, personnel, and of course, effort. In order to cover a PI’s effort commitment in a period of extension, we have added a paragraph into the request addressing whether the effort will remain that same or be reduced. (more…)

FDA Issues Draft Guidance on Regulating Genetically Engineered Animals

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, has released for public comment draft guidance on the regulation of genetically engineered (GE) animals. The guidance document is intended to clarify the FDA’s regulatory authority in this field, as well as the requirements and recommendations for producers of GE animals and products derived from GE animals. Farm bill makes changes in USDA research funding initiative

The 2008 Farm Bill, a.k.a. the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, makes some changes in the agency’s flagship competitive grants program. That program, currently called the National Research Initiative, will be renamed the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI). Funding for the AFRI will be authorized at $700 million per year, with 60 percent of appropriated funds going to basic research and the remaining 40 percent to applied research programs. (more…)
