Major IT maintenance outage Jan. 6

Replace your SSN-based ID card

If you still carry a UW ID card that has your SSN on it, please replace it as soon as possible. New cards will be issued with a photo id number that does not contain this sensitive information. There is a campus commitment to review and remove SSNs from all computing systems as appropriate. The ID system is one of those areas under review. Carrying and displaying a card with your social security number exposes you to potential identity theft. (more…)

Your computer may need help springing ahead to daylight savings

Last warning on weak NetID passwords

The 3rd round of emails to campus users with weak Netid passwords is scheduled to go out starting February 26. This is the last email users will receive encouraging them to change their NetID passwords. (more…)

Daylight Savings Time starts earlier this year

The Energy Policy Act 2005 changes the start and end dates of daylight savings time which are effective in 2007. This will make electronic clocks that had pre-programmed dates for adjusting to daylight saving time obsolete and will require updates to computer operating systems. (more…)

Please note that the Office of Campus Information Security (OCIS) will be sending out another email on 1/30/07 to campus users whose netid password does not comply to the Campus Password Policy. This policy can be found at: http://www.doit.wisc.edu/security/policies/password.asp

You will be asked to change your password prior to March 2007. If your password still does not comply, it will be changed for you.
