Register by May 13 for the 2008 Teaching and Learning Symposium

Register now for the 2008 Teaching & Learning Symposium. The symposium takes place on May 21-22 at the Pyle Center, with post-symposium workshops offered on May 22-23 at the Pyle Center and other campus locations. Students should submit proposals for CALS Research Symposium by April 4

The CALS Honors and Research Society (CHARS is now accepting submissions for the CALS Research Symposium on Saturday, April 19. During previous symposiums students have used posters or oral presentations to showcase their research and other outstanding projects — study abroad experiences, community involvement, senior capstone projects, etc. CHARS welcomes submissions from students of all disciplines. You do not have to be a CALS student to participate! Scholarships of up to $50 will be available to defray printing or other costs. Applications are due April 4. (more…)

April 18 discussion on troubled and difficult students

Please join The CALS Teaching and Learning Council for a brown bag lunch on April 18th at noon in room 6201, Microbial Sciences Building. Dean of Students Lori Berquam and members of the Student Advocacy and Judicial Affairs staff discuss information on dealing with troubled and/or difficult students, including how to identify warning signs of a person in crisis, what to do with concerns about student behavior and resources available to support you in addressing challenging situations. WALSAA Travel Awards

The Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association (WALSAA) is offering travel awards at the three hundred dollar level to be used during the 2007-2008 school year. Spread the word: The 100-hour Wiscontrepreneur Challenge

The 100-hour Wiscontrepreneur Challenge is a fun, exciting and creative contest that’s open to all students currently enrolled at UW – Madison, or any other accredited two- or four-year institution in Wisconsin. All participating students or teams of students can claim a $10 voucher redeemable for purchase of an object available at the UW’s SWAP (Surplus With A Purpose) Shop. Students will then have 100 hours to take their best shot at doing something entrepreneurial with their SWAP object. The clock starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 and stops at 10 p.m. on Monday, April 21 — 100 hours. (more…)

Link your grad program website to new CALS grad program page

The web page for the CALS Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Development is up and running at www.cals.wisc.edu/gradstudies. A link to the page has been placed on the CALS home page. In order for prospective students to have access to general information about graduate studies in all disciplines in CALS, it would be helpful if graduate programs would place a link to the GSPD web page on their own web pages. If you are in charge of a graduate program, you are encouraged to add a link to GSPD on your web page. (more…)

CALS Student Council seeking new faculty advisor

CALS Student Council is looking for a new faculty advisor to serve along with the advisor from the CALS Office of Undergraduate Programs and Services. The Council is looking for someone who likes working with undergraduates and is willing to commit to roughly two meetings per month. If you are interested please send a brief email to the Council at calssc@rso.wisc.edu.

Mission Statement of CALS Student Council: “The CALS Student Council shall be an organized, unified voice for all students interested in agricultural and life sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The purpose of the council shall be to develop student leaders and promote agriculture, the life sciences, and the Wisconsin Idea in academia and the community.”

Credit from non-UW summer courses transfer to UW

Starting Monday, March 3, the Office of Admissions will open the Summer Course Equivalency Service for enrolled students who plan to complete summer course work at another institution. This is an optional service that provides information on how course work will transfer back to UW-Madison. (more…)

Jeopardy College Championship at Kohl Center
