UW-Madison’s day at the state fair offers an opportunity to showcase your program

Wednesday, August 6 will be UW-Madison Day at the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair — an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Wisconsin’s students, families, and communities. and to join Bucky Badger, the UW Marching Band and alumni from around the world for musical performances, science activities, and demonstrations of how UW-Madison discoveries which have fueled Wisconsin’s agriculture and economy. It’s also a chance to showcase your program with displays and demonstrations. To learn more, come to the first planning meeting on Friday, May 16th, from 8–9:30 a.m. at the Wisconsin Alumni Association, 650 North Lake Street.

CALS departments asked to develop plans to conserve energy

In support of the campus We Conserve program, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is directing departments to develop and implement a computer power management plan which will contribute to the campus goal of reducing energy consumption by 20 percent before 2010. Power management plans should be shared with Associate Dean Frank Kooistra and implemented as soon as it is approved by your departmental governance process. (more…)

Charter St. will be southbound-only this summer

A utility project on Charter St. is scheduled to begin May 19 and will last for most of the summer. Charter St. will be converted to southbound traffic only except for bikes and mopeds. LA’s professional degree program gets re-accreditation

The Department of Landscape Architecture’s professional has been granted re-accreditation of its professional BSLA program from the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board. The program first became accredited in 1966, two years after the department was founded. Since 1964 the department has conferred 1,400 undergrad degrees and 255 graduate degrees. (more…)

Take a minute to take the “We Conserve” pledge

The “We Conserve” program is asking all UW faculty and staff to take the pledge. To do so, go to http://www.conserve.wisc.edu and become one of 1200 faculty and staff who have already taken the pledge. Here are some tips you can do in your own office: turn-off lights when leaving for more than a few minutes; replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent; maximize the use of natural light; do not use halogen lights; use limited task lighting; and, report excessive illumination. Lighting accounts for 11 percent of our electricity use.

Crazylegs Horticulture team hits the pavement to support injured colleague

On October 26, 2007, Jim Busse, a USDA employee working in the Department of Horticulture, was biking home like any normal day. Jim, an avid biker and runner, had been training to participate in a marathon at Walt Disney World in Florida, in early January. (more…)
