Biological Systems Engineering
Degrees offered: MS PhD PhD minor
Graduate program in the Biological Systems Engineering department emphasizes solving fundamental and applied problems in many areas, which may be grouped under the following categories: food and bioprocess engineering, natural resources and environment engineering, machinery systems engineering, and structural systems engineering. Our students investigate various cutting-edge research issues in emerging areas such as nanotechnology, biosensors, bioenergy, biomass production and conversion, precision agriculture systems, biosafety and security, and encapsulation and controlled delivery of bioactive compounds etc. Many of our faculty have joint appointments in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Food Science, Soil Science, Institute for Environmental Studies etc. and hence guide several projects which cut across disciplinary boundaries.
