Food Sciences
Degrees offered: MS PhD PhD minor
Graduate programs in Food Science are offered with specialties in food chemistry, food engineering, food microbiology and safety, and food science. The department occupies Babcock Hall, a modern building with excellent facilities for teaching and research. Availability of modern instrumentation facilitates studies of the physical, chemical, biological, and microbiological properties of food; pilot plants are suited to projects dealing with development or improvement of food products, food processes, and aquaculture. A fully equipped, multi-product dairy plant is also located in Babcock Hall. Individuals obtaining advanced degrees in food science will find employment opportunities in academic teaching and research; governmental research or regulatory activities; industrial research, development, processing, quality assurance, consumer service, and sales; and in industrial or institutional management positions requiring a high level of scientific training.
