The College and Cooperative Extension:
Teaming up to carry out a special mission
Wisconsin citizens expect the College to apply the results
of its research to help the the state solve problems and take advantage
of new opportunities - especially in the areas of food and agriculture,
natural resource conservation and management, and rural development. It's
called our Extension mission Ñ we extend our research-based knowledge
to the people who need it. It's a responsibility that comes with being
part of Wisconsin's Land Grant University and
the home of the Wisconsin Agricultural Research Station.
The College carries out its extension mission in large part
through a unique partnership with Cooperative Extension, University of
Wisconsin-Extension. About a third of the College's faculty hold budgeted
Extension appointments, most in combination with teaching or research
appointments. These subject-matter specialists work with Extension agents
in all Wisconsin counties to design and deliver Extension programs.
