
Serving as a student representative
on a CALS committee is a great way to make a difference on campus.
By channeling student concerns to the proper faculty committees, you
are ensuring that students do have a voice setting the policies and
plans for this college's future. Student committee representatives
are asked to give a report to the Student Council meetings at the
councils monthly meeting. As many of the committees do not meet regularly
or often, student representatives are only asked to report when they
have new information. The representatives give a brief description
of what their committee does and what their committee has been doing,
and they also highlight any issues on which the Student Council might
appropriately register an opinion on behalf of the students in the
College.
The Student Council appoints students to these committees each
spring for the next year. If you are interested in serving on a

Charge: The Equity and
Diversity Committee advises the Dean on issues of equity and diversity
affecting the College. Examples include recommendations regarding
grievances for students and staff, procedures in hiring diverse
faculty, and developing minority programs.
Meetings: Usually

Charge: The Facilities
Planning Committee advises the Dean on the buildings and other physical
facilities of the College. This includes long range planning, capital
budget development, and building and remodeling priorities, site
selection, and land use planning.

Charge: The Career Services
Committee analyzes procedures and programs currently utilized in
the areas of career advising, internship, and placement for the
College of Agricultural and Life Sciences in order to advise the
college on these policies and procedures. The committee also assesses
the effectiveness of the current programs and activities and recommends
improvements in the program features.
