Final Examination Policy

CALS operates under the campus policy on final exams. The campus policy outlines the procedures for the examination period and indicates that no final exams can be given outside of that period, including a prohibition on final exams the last day of class.
In addition, CALS faculty have adopted two additional policies that add to or clarify the campus policy. The CALS policies are:
- The Dean's permission to change a summary period time will be granted only if all students in the class agree to the change. The instructor should be very careful not to exert, or appear to exert, pressure on any student to agree to a change.
- The summary period need not be used, as specified in the UW-Madison policy. Further, the instructor may choose to use only a portion of the summary period (e.g. a 90-minute exam) but should notify the students of the length of the examination prior to the beginning of the exam.
