Freshman students typically take placement tests for English Composition, Mathematics and Foreign Language (French, Spanish and German), in the spring semester of their senior year in high school at a number of sites around the state. These placement tests are also given at SOAR (Summer Orientation and Advising for Registration) for any students who have missed the earlier dates. Experts in English, Foreign Language and Mathematics interpret the placement test scores. The scores indicate where students should start but there is no credit awarded for placement in higher level courses.
Transfer students need to take English and math placement exams only if they have not taken English composition and math courses at their former institutions. Students who need placement testing can contact Testing and Evaluation Services.
The Math Placement Office (262-2882) should be contacted if there are questions about math test results or placement. Math Placement Score interpretations are posted by the Testing and Evaluation Services Office and can be found at 366 Educational Sciences Building, 1025 West Johnson Street, 262-5863.
