by Curriculum Committee (updated April 10, 1996)
Policy:
The College of Agricultural and Life Science adopts, by reference, the “UW-Madison Faculty Policy on Access and Accommodation in Instruction,” Faculty Document 1071, adopted by the UW-Madison Faculty Senate on May 2, 1994.
Implementation:
- Implementation is a shared responsibility of faculty and students.
- Students must inform faculty in a timely manner of their need for an accommodation based on a disability.
- Faculty, either directly or in cooperation with the McBurney Center, are expected to work with students to identify and provide a reasonable accommodation, following the principles identified in the Faculty Senate Policy.
- If the students and the faculty member cannot agree on a reasonable accommodation, the department's designated Access and Accommodation Resource Coordinator (as identified under the Faculty Senate Policy) will try to resolve the disagreement.
- If the disagreement is not resolved within the department, the student can appeal to the College by submitting a letter to the Associate Dean for Academic Student Affairs. The Associate Dean will refer the matter to the Committee on Scholastic Policies and Actions for advice.
- The student can appeal the decision of the College to the campus committee designated to hear appeals under the Faculty Senate Policy on Access and Accommodation in Instruction.
Scope:
This policy applies to all courses and other academic activities and requirements in the College.
