CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS FOR B.S. DEGREE PROGRAMS
in the
COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL AND LIFE SCIENCES

  1. ALL DEGREE PROGRAMS IN CALS shall include the following (the same course may satisfy one of these requirements and a requirement in Sections II-IX, including those in the major):
    1. Math 112 or equivalent
    2. 3 credits additional in mathematics, statistics, or computer science
    3. 5 credits written and oral communications
    4. Chem 103 or 108 or 109
    5. 15 credits total, distributed as follows:
      1. three credits in economics or agricultural and applied economics
      2. three credits in ethnic studies
      3. six credits in humanities/literature/arts
      4. three credits in social science, not economics or ag and applied economics
    6. 3 credits biological science
    7. 3 credits physical science
    8. 3 credits international studies (may be satisfied by a course that also meets another requirement in Sections I-IX, including those in the major)
    9. Capstone experience as approved by major department


  2. The degree requirements for a B.S.-AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES shall include:
    1. 12 credits from three of the areas listed below, not including the major area
      1. agricultural social science
      2. animal science
      3. agricultural engineering science
      4. food science
      5. nutritional sciences
      6. plant science
      7. soil science
      8. bacteriology, biochemistry, or genetics
    2. All of the courses in one of the following concentrations
      1. Production Systems
        1. Math 113
        2. Chem 104 or 110
        3. 6 credits physical or biological sciences
        4. 5 credits additional production agriculture
        5. 6 credits agricultural and applied economics or accounting or personnel management
      2. Business
        1. Econ 101 or AAE 215
        2. 3 credits accounting
        3. 3 credits marketing
        4. 3 credits personnel management
        5. 6 credits business or agricultural and applied economics
      3. Social Science
        1. Rur Soc 140, 210, 215, 217, 222, 230, 248 or 266 (one course required)
        2. Econ 101 or AAE 215
        3. 9 credits social sciences
        4. 3 credits agriculture, technology and society
    3. 15 credits as specified by the major department


  3. The degree requirements for a B.S.-NATURAL RESOURCES shall include:
    1. Math 113
    2. 10 credits botany or zoology or biocore
    3. 13 credits total in the following areas, with at least one course in each:
      1. Earth resources
      2. Ecology
      3. Resource economics, policy and planning
      4. Resource management and conservation
      5. Human resource interaction
    4. 15 credits resource related courses
    5. 15 credits as specified by the major department


  4. The degree requirements for a B.S.-NATURAL SCIENCES shall include:
    1. Math 113
    2. 8 credits physics
    3. Completion of one of the following groups:
      1. Chem 104 and Chem 221 or 223
      2. Chem 104 and Math 211 or 221
      3. Chem 110
    4. Completion of one of the following groups:
      1. Chem 341 and 342
      2. Chem 343 and 344 and 345
      3. 5 credits advanced physics
    5. Completion of one of the following groups:
      1. 10 credits Biocore
      2. Botany/Zoology 151 and 152
      3. Botany 130 and Zoology 101 and 102
    6. 6 credits biological or physical sciences
    7. 15 credits as specified by the major department


  5. The degree requirements for a B.S.-AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT shall include:
    1. 3 credits selected from the animal sciences, food science, nutritional sciences, plant sciences, or soil science
    2. Math 210 and 211, or 221 and 222
    3. Econ 101, and AAE 215 or Econ 102 or Econ 181
    4. Econ 301 and 302, or 311 and 312
    5. ACCT I S 100 or 300, and 211
    6. 15 additional credits in business
    7. 15 credits major course program in Agricultural Business Management to be approved by the steering committee
    8. 15 credits in agricultural and applied economics


  6. The degree requirements for a B.S.-AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING shall include:
    1. 15 credits Math 221, 222, 223
    2. Chem 104 or Physics 201, and Physics 202
    3. One of the following courses: Agron 100, Bact 101 or 303, An Sci 101, Soil Sci 301
    4. 20 credits in College of Engineering
    5. 15 credits Biological Systems Engineering


  7. The degree requirements for a B.S.-DIETETICS shall include:
    1. Math 113
    2. Chem 104 or 110
    3. Chem 341 or 343
    4. Biomolecular Chemistry 314 or Biochem 501
    5. Physiol 335
    6. ACCT I S 300 and MHR 300
    7. 15 credits Food Science
    8. 14 credits Nutritional Sciences


  8. The degree requirements for a B.S.-LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE shall include:
    1. Math 112 and 113
    2. ME 160 and Civ Engr 352 and 450
    3. Botany 130, and 260 or 455
    4. Geog 127
    5. Soil Sci 301 or 315
    6. 15 credits Landscape Architecture


  9. The degree requirements for a B.S.-INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES shall include:
    1. 6 credits natural sciences related to international agriculture or natural resources
    2. 6 credits social sciences related to international agriculture or natural resources in addition to courses required under I.E. above.
    3. Four semesters of one foreign language
    4. International experience approved by the International Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee
    5. 15 credits as specified by the major department
