- The Academic Advancement Program (AAP) is a campus-wide academic support program. It provides access to higher education for students of color and those from non-traditional backgrounds, who are academically at risk but have high potential for success at the University. Support is offered in the areas of academic advising and orientation, counseling, tutoring, writing and reading instruction, and study skills. (Location: 10 Ingraham Hall, Madison, Wisconsin, 53706, 608-263-5068).
- TRIO Student Support Services Program
- TRIO is a learning enrichment program that provides group and personal instruction. This program is open to students across campus who meet one or more of the following qualifications: 1) first-generation college student; 2) low-income based on parent/guardian taxable income; and 3) physical or learning disabled. - Multicultural Student Center (MSC)
- Since 1988, the MSC has been providing out of classroom experiences, where students and other members of the University community can learn about and appreciate other cultures. The UW-Madison campus values diversity and the MSC has been providing opportunities by which differences can be celebrated. The MSC focuses its resources on the needs of five designated student of color groups: African American, American Indian, Southeast Asian, and Chicano and Puerto Rico. The MSC is a unit of the Dean of Students office, and is located on the second floor of 'The Old Red Gym,' 716 Langdon Street, 608-262-4503. The Multicultural Student Center (MSC) has a Satellite center, which is an informal lounge where all students can go to hang out and relax. If you have questions regarding campus resources, housing, or multicultural issues, the Satellite staff is a great at providing support and assistance. The Satellite center also maintains a variety of cultural resources that may be of interest. They include books, music, videos, and ethnic magazines. For information, call 608-262-6791.
- Multicultural Resident Consultants
- University Housing has nine live-in Multicultural Resident Consultants (MRCs) spread throughout the residence halls. The MRCs serve as an additional resource and support to students of color and international students living in the residence halls. They provide individual outreach to students, and help them as they become connected and acclimated to the University. MRCs provide programming throughout the academic year, and distribute a bi-semester newsletter to keep residents informed of upcoming events and programs in the residence halls, MSC Satellite center, and on campus.
- The Mentor Program
- The UW-Madison Mentor Program offers you the opportunity to make closer connections with the campus and community. By participating in the Mentor Program, you can establish a relationship with a faculty, staff or peer mentor who can help make your experience at the UW an more meaningful one. The Program's goal is to assist students of color and students from non-traditional educational backgrounds in making a successful transition to college life, and achieving academic success. Develop your potential both inside and outside of the classroom. (Location: 409 South Hall, Madison, Wisconsin, 608-262-2583).
