Contest Purpose

The purpose of this contest is to create more interest in, and a better knowledge of, showing dairy cattle. It also provides judging contestants a better opportunity to see the cattle presented properly.

General Rules

  • All contestants report to the lobby of the Dairy Cattle Center.
  • Participants will lead cattle for the Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. A preliminary evaluation of their showing skills will be made in the Dairy Cattle Arena prior to the cattle judging contest. Evaluation will continue throughout the cattle judging. Ten finalists will be selected to compete in the written quiz and final showing competition. Showing ability will count for 80 points and the quiz will count for 20 points of the final score. Appropriate certificates of award will be made to outstanding contestants.

Each contestant will be allowed a minimum of 15 minutes to display his/her showing skills, depending on the number of entrants. Following the completion of the cattle judging contest competition, top finalists in showing will be called to the ring for an overall final heat. After the final heat, all finalists will take a written quiz. The written quiz will consist of 20 questions. Questions will be taken from the PDCA Dairy Cow Unified Score Card and PDCA Uniform Score Card for judging Junior Dairy Fitting & Showmanship Contests.
