Entry Rules

1. All NON-QUALIFYING State FFA Career Development Event entries and payments must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2008. A late penalty of $50 per day will be charged to any entry and/or payment that arrives after the April 1 deadline. Postmark must be a bona fide postmark from a U.S. Post Office. Metered dates will not be accepted if they arrive after the deadline.
   
   Entries will also be accepted by Fax prior to April 1, 2008 - but payment must be received by April 1, 2008. (Fax # 608-265-5905).
   
   
2. All QUALIFYING State FFA Career Development Event entries and payments must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, April 11, 2008. A late penalty of $50 per day will be charged to any entry and/or payment that arrives after the April 11 deadline. Postmark must be a bona fide postmark from a U.S. Post Office. Metered dates will not be accepted if they arrive after the deadline.
   
   
3. The following contests limit the number of teams that will be accepted: Dairy Cattle Showing - 60 individuals; Meats - 45 teams; Agronomy - 50 teams; Poultry - 35 teams; Forestry - 20 teams; Sales - 20 teams; Nursery/Landscape - 25 teams.
   
   Entries will receive priority based on date payment and entry is received. No shows at the State event in 2007 will receive last priority in 2008 for those same events.
   
   
4. The top 40 percent of teams judging Dairy and whichever is greater of the top eight teams or top 35 percent of Livestock, top 12 teams or top 35 percent of Horse Evaluation, top five teams or top 35 percent of Ag Mechanics, and top 3 teams or top 25 percent of Floriculture from each area contest have until April 10 to enter and pay. The percentages qualified at Area Contests are based on the percentage of full 3 or 4 person teams indicating that they are attempting to qualify at an Area Contest.
   
   
5. Entry fees will be charged PER TEAM at the rate of $15/per four-person team entered in each contest WITH EXCEPTIONS OF Agronomy ($20), Food Science Technology ($20), Dairy Cattle Evaluation ($20), Dairy Products ($20), Floriculture ($35), Horse ($30), Livestock ($20), Meats ($30) and Poultry ($20). Individuals entered in the Dairy Showmanship contest will pay $5/per person. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A $20/PER SCHOOL REGISTRATION FEE. Registration and contest fees will not be returned to teams that cancel after April 2, 2008.
   
   
6. Please note that all FFA members will be required to know their Chapter FFA membership number the day of the contest.

General State and Area Career Development Event Rules

1. Any school that teaches agriculture and natural resources education with an FFA chapter may enter teams in the State FFA Career Development Events.
2. Previous State contest winning team members and/or other participants in regional or national competition who represent Wisconsin may not participate in further competition at qualifying or state contests in that contest area, except Crops teams competing at the National Invitational Crops contest.
3. All state non qualifying contest teams shall consist of three or four FFA members. Qualifying teams must consist of at least three or four FFA members who are eligible to compete in that contest area at state.
4. In order to participate in the State FFA Career Development Event, a team must be pre-registered by April 1, 2008 or qualify at an Area Contest and enter by April 11, 2008.
5. If extenuating circumstances make it impossible for all members of a properly registered team of three or more to compete, the remaining one or two team members may compete as individuals and will be eligible for appropriate individual trophies. No student or team may participate for practice only. Non-registered persons may not be present while a contest is in session. Misrepresentation of persons entered will mean disqualification of that team in that contest.
6. All contestants must be FFA members and recorded on the Chapter's official roster at the time of that contest and may not compete beyond their senior year. Seventh or Eighth grade students may NOT compete at the State level competition.
7. The team score in any state event division will be the sum of the scores of the top three individual members.
8. Superintendents and judges will select the classes and decide upon the correct placing.
9. Each contestant will be allowed approximately 12 minutes for placing each class of livestock. Superintendent will announce time. Team contestants will be assigned to different groups and will not be permitted to communicate with each other. Violations will result in disqualifications.
10. Each animal will be numbered for identification; i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc. Contestants and officials will be properly identified and they will be the only people allowed on the judging arena floor.
11. Cattle will be brought into the arena after the contestants are in place.
12. Instructors not assisting are requested to assemble only in specified sections during judging.
13. Cell phone use is absolutely prohibited during any CDE . If a student has a cell phone in their hand during any CDE, they will be disqualified. Cell phones must be turned off and remain in a pocket during the CDE.
14. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Ag Education State Team has determined that contest teams who may have hearing impaired contestants must provide their own sign interpreters for State FFA CDE contest events.
