Trying to decide between Peace Corps and Grad School?
Why not do both - at the same time!
The Master's International program lets you combine Peace Corps service with a graduate degree program. You can earn an advanced degree while getting the training and field experience for which the Peace Corps is renowned. You'll end up with excellent academic credentials and international experience — an attractive combination for prospective employers.
The program is offered through six UW departments which will prepare you for most-needed Peace Corps assignments such as public health and nutrition, forestry and natural resources management, agriculture, business, community development and urban planning.
The typical program would allow you to focus your expertise with a year of classes on the UW campus followed by two years in a Peace Corps assignment relevant to your course of study. In most cases you will return to campus to complete your master's degree. Programs will vary somewhat by department.
Students can earn between six and nine credits, depending on the department, by completing an analytical paper (which may be a project report or a thesis) on their Peace Corps experience.
Each participating department has a contact person who can tell you more about how you can earn a Master's International degree in a field that meets your interests. Any faculty member in a participating department can act as your adviser.
There are also Master's International programs at over 50 other schools in the U.S. If the programs here at UW do not match your interests, check out those programs. Also, Peace Corps Fellows is another option for linking Peace Corps with graduate school. |
