Transportation
City buses, operated by Madison Metro, travel throughout the Madison urban area. Madison Metro has instituted a Transfer Point System designed to facilitate travel both within sectors of town (N, S, E, W) and cross-town. As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you are entitled to a city bus pass called the ASM Student Bus Pass. ASM (Associated Students of Madison) is the University's student government organization. The ASM bus pass allows students free rides on all Madison Metro city routes.
Picking Up the Bus Pass
Passes are distributed during the first three weeks of each academic semester at the Memorial Union, Union South and Grainger Hall. You will need a valid student ID to receive your pass. If you are unable to pick up your bus pass during the distribution hours at the beginning of the semester, you will still be able to pick up your pass during the rest of the semester at ASM Student Print in B114 Memorial Union.
Using the Bus Pass
When boarding a Madison Metro bus, you must show your bus pass and University ID card. Bus drivers will not grant rides to students who do not have both forms of identification.
Lost Pass
You may purchase a replacement pass for $20 anytime during the semester at the ASM Student Print office.
Other Considerations
For those needing to pay fare, exact change is required (adults, $1.50). Significant discounts are given to those using QuikTix and monthly passes. Bus schedules are available on buses, at the Campus Assistance Center , at the Visitor and Information Place on North Park Street at Memorial Union, or Madison Metro, 266-4466.
