USDA and DOE have announced that they will provide up to $18 million for Fiscal Year 2007 to support research and development of biobased products, biofuels, bioenergy and related processes.
Maximum award amounts will not exceed $1 million. Eligible applicants include state and federal research agencies, national laboratories, private-sector groups and nonprofit organizations. Consortia of two or more groups also are encouraged to apply. The closing date for pre-applications is July 11, 2007. Preapplications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov at www.grants.gov . CALL FOR SWITCH GRASS AND BIOMASS FACULTY: WiSys Technology Foundation (subsidiary of WARF) is facilitating a collaborative effort in switch grass or other perennial biomass producing plants for bioenergy. We have an entrepreneur who isinterested in partnering with UW faculty who may be able to assist her to conduct field trials. I also have a UW River Falls faculty who is interested in looking at plant breeding and possibility involved in some field trials of switch grass. Would either of you have an interest indiscussing the project with the UW River Falls faculty as well as the small company. We are also seeking funding for the project from stateand federal sources.
