Vegetable trials
Check Out the New Asian Vegetables!
Check out the best Asian cucumber, edible soybeans, super salad
greens, Joi Choi and Bok Choi for stir-frying, and find out how to cook the 3
foot long Red Noodle Bean.
We have been trialing Asian vegetables for 3 years. We
evaluated over 150 selections. Attend our 2007 Urban Horticulture Field
Day and find information on the 49 that grow well in Wisconsin.
Be dazzled by our peppers!
Sweet peppers are found in a large array of colors and flavors. Over a dozen
different peppers can be found in our ever-changing collection. The colors
range from the traditional green (changing to red as they ripen), to blushing
pink, chocolate (brown), purple, orange, and golden yellow. Flavors range
from warm, sweet, and fruity to subtle spicy. View all of these when you visit
our garden.
Watch our tomatoes ripen!
Many of the tomatoes you will see as you tour the garden are heirloom tomatoes
that were brought to this country by immigrants from around the world. Their
shapes, colors and flavors are unique and many have been used for breeding to
produce some of the new tomatoes found in our garden and on the fresh produce
market today. Make sure you don't miss the tomato taste testing on August 17th
at our garden field day. Check the Field Day page for more information.
Pumpkins and more pumpkins!
We grow over 10 cultivars or varieties of pumpkins every year. Their colors
range from white and cream to varying shades of orange. A few are specialty
pumpkins ideal for carving Jack-O-Lanterns. Others are fantastic pie pumpkins.
This year watch for our "gargantukin" pumpkins in the pumpkin patch!!
