Food, Health, and Community for People with Developmental DisabilitiesThis health promotion project involves a variety of collaborative research, teaching, and training activities. The project goal is to enhance the skills of people with developmental disabilities and their care givers in the areas of gardening, food acquisition and preparation, and nutrition. The project will produce (1) at least five training events that reach more than 150 service providers across the state during one year, (2) a resource collection for teaching and outreach on food issues and developmental disabilities, and (3) a plan for involving students and community-service organizations in nutrition and food-system issues. Indirectly, this effort will reach thousands of consumers with developmental disabilities.
