Project Summary

Food System Teaching and Research Network

The Food System Teaching and Research Network will develop new and enhance existing efforts that introduce UW-Madison students to food-system issues and concepts such as food security, nutrition, food safety, sustainable agriculture, the environmental impacts of food systems, and structural, economic, and technological trends within the food system. It will develop a Food Systems Teaching Network involving faculty who teach in the area of food systems. This network will facilitate the sharing of new efforts to develop food systems curricula, teaching materials and methods, and course outcomes. The Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) will work with the network to help build the input of community and professional groups into food systems curricula.

This project will also explore ways to communicate the ideas and knowledge generated in classrooms to a wide range of audiences, especially non-University communities. This will involve creating partnerships with journalists and agricultural/food trade organizations.
