Troy Gardens CoalitionThe Troy gardens are among the largest community gardens in Madison serving over 100 low- to moderate-income families which include many Southeast Asian refugees. The Troy Gardens Coalition consists of representatives from Northside neighborhoods, community organizations, nonprofit land trusts, and gardeners. For over one year, the Coalition has been working on a plan to acquire and preserve the gardens site. It has also been gathering input from the community to develop an innovative plan for the 35-acre garden site. This plan includes expanded community gardens, conservancy parkland, an agroecology education site, and mixed-income, owner-occupied homes. Several UW-Madison programs and departments are working with the Troy Garden Coalition to plan urban educational programs that teach gardening, food preservation, and nutrition to community residents and students from elementary through the university.
