The Wisconsin Garden: Culture, Agriculture, and CurriculumThe Wisconsin garden project involves elementary school students in Madison, and the Oneida Nation. In this project, young people will have the opportunity to learn about (1) traditional Oneida gardening and farming practices, (2) modern sustainable agriculture, and (3) urban gardening in the classroom, the backyard, and the community. Students will meet with young people and adults in other communities who garden and are involved with sustainable agriculture. Students will be able to continue to communicate with the people they meet through Web sites, online discussion groups, and e-mail. This will extend learning experiences beyond the usual one-day field trip in both content and duration. Electronic communication will also facilitate sharing within and between classrooms.
